Abstract
► Measurement model of Akers' social learning theory (SLT) created and tested. ► Prototypes of Gerrard and Gibbons prototype/willingness model (PWM) developed, tested. ► PWM, personal characteristics augmenting Akers' SLT predicted young novice speeding. ► Predictors differed for each gender; speeding as a Learner remained most predictive. ► Safe driving behaviours as Learner and vigilant supervision appear to be essential.
