Abstract
⺠The visual and manual demands of in-car navigation systems have often been studied. ⺠The impacts of the spoken route information have not been investigated so thoroughly. ⺠We identified a preference and processing advantage for auditory presentation. ⺠However, complex auditory instructions reduced driving performance. ⺠Our work highlights the importance of the design of spoken route information.
