Abstract
► The visual and manual demands of in-car navigation systems have often been studied. ► The impacts of the spoken route information have not been investigated so thoroughly. ► We identified a preference and processing advantage for auditory presentation. ► However, complex auditory instructions reduced driving performance. ► Our work highlights the importance of the design of spoken route information.
