Abstract
► We developed a novel approach to classify causation patterns in incidents. ► This approach relies on naturalistic video-recordings of car-pedestrian incidents. ► Causation patterns involve visual obstruction and unexpected pedestrian behavior. ► Attention towards other than the conflict pedestrian was also common. ► Causation patterns can inform design of advanced driver assistance systems.
