Abstract
⺠Driving performance deteriorates in the presence of mobile phone distraction. ⺠Distraction errors in a simulator also occur when refraining from answering a call. ⺠Low habitual intention to ignore calls whilst driving increases distraction effect. ⺠Effects of intention and control imply cognitive cost of inhibiting response. ⺠Switching phones off or setting to silent is safer.
