Abstract
⺠We summarized current knowledge on Hg speciation in various types of Hg contaminated soil. ⺠We summed up the toxicity of Hg to humans, plants and microorganisms. ⺠We comment on the commonly employed and emerging techniques for mercury remediation. ⺠We pointed out phytoextraction is a new cleanup technology.
