Abstract
- The pore size of ordered mesoporous silica is comparable with the diameter of many proteins.
- The mesopores constitute a protecting environment for enzymes/proteins to be used for biocatalytic/therapeutic applications.
- Protein-silica interactions can be modulated either by silica surface functionalization or changing electrolyte composition of the adsorbing solution.
- Weak and strong electrolytes modulate protein adsorption and leaching/release from ordered mesoporous silica.
