Abstract
- Mixtures of single-chain amphiphiles and sterols can form stable fluid bilayers.
- Lipid mixing, and interfacial hydration are critical for their stability.
- Their high sterol content leads to liposomes with a very limited permeability.
- The resulting liposomes can be made responsive to stimuli.
