Abstract
- Collagen self-assembly into fibrils with the native D-periodicity was mediated by surface charge and ion species.
- The multivalent ions induce the like-charge attraction through coupling and renormalization of the charge distribution and facilitate the longitudinal registration of collagen molecules to form fibrils with banding patterns.
