Abstract
Effective lubrication under zero entrainment velocity (ZEV) conditions has been experimentally demonstrated by using lubricated conjunction of oleophilic and oleophobic surfaces. It is hypothesized that the phenomenon is attributed to the boundary slip effect. The isothermal elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) of a non-conformal contact of slip and non-slip surfaces under ZEV conditions is analyzed numerically. A modified Reynolds equation that incorporates the slip length model is used. A method of measuring the slip velocity of lubricant on a surface is devised and implemented in ZEV tests with contact surfaces of different affinities to the lubricant. The slip velocity that is extracted using the new method is compared with the speed of the contact surfaces to derive their relationship.
