Abstract
Friction-induced vibrations appearing in rotary contact systems have been known as serious problems to be solved. In this study, focusing on the self-excited vibrations induced by the velocity-weakening friction, numerical simulation and experimental verification have been carried out for a circular sliding contact. As a result, it has been found that parallel misalignment between the drive and driven shafts generates damping, which can suppress the torsional vibration around the shafts. The destabilization is caused by change in the “magnitude” of frictional force, while the stabilization is caused by change in the “direction” of frictional force.
