Abstract
A novel, simple and rapid method for the detection of melamine based on tribology measurements conducted by a professional tribometer in rubber-rubber contact was put forward and its detection mechanism was discussed too in this paper. The friction coefficient of milk solution adulterated by melamine is much bigger than that of the original solution and the difference is two or three orders of magnitude larger than the resolution of the measurement instrument, which can be used to detect melamine from the milk. The sensing mechanism is the change of lubricant properties due to the presence of melamine.
