Abstract
⺠Ground surface topography is controlled by abrasive scratches. ⺠Polished surface topography is controlled by hard phase particles. ⺠Initial material transfer is related to surface irregularities. ⺠Sliding perpendicular to grinding scratches causes extensive material transfer. ⺠Material transfer has a strong impact on the friction coefficient.
