Abstract
► In orthopaedic tribology there is a trend towards more diverse wear test conditions. ► Pin-on-disc wear tests were done with conventional UHMWPE against polished CoCr. ► Biomechanically realistic random motion and load, and cyclic ones were implemented. ► The n value in the 2 different tests of 36 days duration was remarkably large, 16. ► Random conditions produced significantly higher wear compared with cyclic input.
