Abstract
► We elucidate the sliding motion effects on the scuffing life. ► Adiabatic shear instability model was appropriate to give an explanation of the effects. ► Under reciprocating sliding motion, the scuffing resistance decreases. ► We found a synergy effect in relation to adiabatic shear in sliding.
