Abstract
⺠We investigated the worn subsurface structural evolution in copper with various microstructures. ⺠The transformation from the subsurface DRX into the top NML is controlling the wear rate. ⺠Wear rate increases with an increasing grain size or a decreasing hardness of the DRX structure.
