The effect of Ti on the microstructure, hydrogen absorption and diffusivity of V-Ni alloy membranes

▸ Addition of Ti to V-Ni creates multi-phase microstructure with up to 4 phases (VSS, NiTi, NiTi2, σ). ▸ Ti increases the H absorption and diffusivity through the VSS phase. ▸ The H diffusivity increases with increased concentration of dissolved H. ▸ The V80Ti10Ni10 alloy exhibited a permeability of 1.2×10−7 mol m−1 s−1 Pa−0.5 at 400 °C.
