Abstract
▶ Fouling behavior of wood extractive groups depends on the process water matrix. ▶ Both dissolved and colloidal extractives fouled the membranes. ▶ Profound fouling understanding needs individual foulant identification. ▶ Major foulants of wood extractives were fatty and resin acids. ▶ Sterols were found more on the hydrophilic than hydrophobic membranes.
