Abstract
⺠Large sustained power swings in the northeastern area of the Iranian interconnected system occurred on 2008-01-21. ⺠In the first part of simulation studies, the simulated oscillations duplicate very closely the recorded snapshots of real oscillations in the actual system. ⺠Improvement in the dynamic behavior of the power system is studied using two approaches. ⺠The analysis focuses on the control of critical inter-area modes associated with the interaction between different areas of the system.
