Abstract

•An active power filter useful as a means to damp the harmonic resonance along the power distribution line has been proposed.•The main advantage in using the proposed active filter is avoiding the estimation of the characteristic impedance of the distribution line.•The effectiveness and the robustness of the proposed filter have been verified by computer simulation with Simplorer.•The proposed filter has been compared with respect a well-designed damper proposed by others.

The authors propose an active power filter as a means to damp the harmonic resonance along the power distribution line. The main advantage of the proposed damper is that of avoiding the estimation of the characteristic impedance of the distribution line. The effectiveness and the robustness of the proposed damper are verified by computer simulation with Simplorer. A comparison with a well-designed damper proposed by others is also provided.
