Abstract
Particle image velocimetry is an established measurement technique for the determination of velocity fields from image data. Further quantities such as pressure can be deduced from the velocity field introducing additional assumptions. The most common ones are incompressibility or adiabatic flow. We propose an adjoint-based technique making neither of those assumptions. The result is a consistent solution for the full Navier-Stokes equations. The paper presents the method and validations by means of synthetic data.
