Abstract
In the inertial range, the conditional mean of the experimental turbulent kinetic energy difference reveals a scaling in the range of the expected characteristic 2/3-Kolmogorov scaling. This is in excellent agreement with the numerical results from the channel flow DNS and comparative data from the DNS of a homogeneous shear flow. Furthermore, the shape of the marginal pdfs of the normalized element length and the scalar difference, i.e., the linear rise and the exponential decay, is shown to agree with the findings from the associated DNS. On average, the dissipation elements possess an orientation over a certain bandwidth in the mean flow direction.
