Abstract

A variable structure approach is used to design and tune a fuzzy controller for a boost DC–DC converter. The proposed method is systematic and eliminates much of the trial-and-error commonly associated with fuzzy systems. The controller is compared against a recently published fuzzy controller that was tuned by traditional methods. Performances of both controllers are comparable, but the amount of time required for design and tuning is greatly reduced using the variable structure approach.
