Abstract

This paper presents a solution to the problem of size, quantity and siting of distribution transformers (DTs) used for low voltage electric network supply. The proposed model is based on optimizing a cost function that considers the investments and operational costs of the electric network. The optimum search is done by using an adapted Genetic Algorithm technique. The codification is developed along with special genetic operators that allow an efficient search for the simultaneous determination of the three variables. The algorithm was tested in real rural and urban type of networks with promising results.

► This article presents a solution for the problem of siting, size and quantity of distribution transformers used in power distribution network. ► The proposed model is based on the minimization of a cost function that considers the investments and operational costs of the electric network. ► The optimum search is done by using an adapted Genetic Algorithm technique. ► Results showed that these tools allow more effectiveness in problem solution searching.
