Abstract

A new method is presented to identify faulty lines in distribution systems equipped with current transformers only in two phases. The transmission characteristics of transient current traveling wave and the electromagnetic coupling relationships among phase wires are analyzed. The wavelet decomposition technique is used to retrieve the transient fault current information. The proposed method is verified by simulation results in which single phase-to-ground faults (SGF) in any phase can be identified in a fast, accurate and reliable way.
