Abstract

The transfer function method is a reliable tool for the detection of the transformer winding deformation and displacement, but determining the extent of winding deformation without considering its location results in unreliable estimations. In addition, there is no exact method for detecting the location of deformation in the transformer windings. This paper suggests an algorithm to determine the extent of the winding buckling based on the detection of the deformation location. The paper presents two main points. The first one is a method for the localization of the radial deformation and the second one is a new index for the determination of the extent of the buckling in transformer windings. Simulation of the detailed model of homogenous and inhomogeneous windings verifies the validity of the proposed algorithm.
