Abstract
The aim of the present study is to experimentally investigate the effects of micro ribs on microchannel thermal performance. For this purpose, different inclined micro ribs with the height of 100 μm were fabricated on 20 mm×20 mm copper plate and placed in microchannel with the height of 200 μm. The test procedure was conducted for 184 < Re < 1800 and the pressure drop and temperature variation was measured for each case. The comparison between flat and ribbed channels was shown that despite of increasing in the pressure drop but a noticeable improves of heat transfer coefficient was also reported. So that, in the ribbed channel with angle of 45°, the Nusselt number was 3.5 times of the flat channel. Comparison between the results showed up to 80% reduction in the thermal resistance by implementation of the rib in microchannel.
