Abstract
Despite the current dominance of natural gas, nuclear power provides reliable low-carbon baseload generation. Even as construction of new domestic plants and exports supporting international expansion preserve U.S. nuclear expertise, technological and regulatory innovations are changing expectations for the next generation nuclear fleet. Some modest policy assistance could help secure for nuclear power an appropriate share of a balanced generation mix for the future.
