Abstract
⺠A forage harvester was modified for wood chipping using a special conversion kit. ⺠Productivity and fuel consumption were the same as for a dedicated wood chipper of the same power. ⺠Temporary conversion allowed better depreciation, resulting in a 25% reduction of chipping cost. ⺠The modified forager offered the combined advantages of road-capability and good off-road mobility. ⺠Poplar wood was easiest to chip, compared to pine and locust wood.
