Abstract
The German parliament decided in June 2011 to phase out the use of nuclear power by the end of 2022, with the intention of having the power supply based at least 80 percent on renewable energy by 2050. The first year of this ‘Energiewende’ saw an intense debate about power tariffs and identified the ingredients necessary for energy transformation.
