Abstract

There is a broad movement to modify energy markets to reflect the increasing technical viability of energy storage. This movement is happening through FERC's reduction of barriers to participation in the ancillary services markets and structural changes that allow for pricing that is more sensitive to faster and more accurate frequency regulation. California's implementation of its energy storage procurement statute will have broad implications nationally, especially by providing insight on the types, uses and value of storage technologies and the structure for the long-term procurement of energy storage services.
