Abstract
As populations grow and budgets are cut, the resilience of the electricity sector becomes an issue. This article uses qualitative data gleaned from case studies to illustrate the consequences for advanced industrialized societies of the sudden loss of electrical energy, and argues for a government-led response to the ‘energy-gap.’ Keynesianism may provide a remedy.
