Abstract
Private equity has made a dramatic entry into the once-staid world of electric utilities. These investors, with their superior management expertise and greater access to capital, have the potential to improve utility operations and increase investment in badly needed generation and transmission facilities. Their acquisitions do not come without their share of risks, however.
