Characterization of a butanol-acetone-producing Clostridium strain and identification of its solventogenic genes

► Isolation and characterization of a wild-type Clostridium species strain G117. ► G117 is capable to produce 13.50 g/L butanol when fed with 60 g/L glucose. ► G117 also distinguishes itself by generating negligible amount of ethanol. ► G117 butanol dehydrogenase was found to be a putative gene for butanol production.
