Abstract
⺠An effective cellulose-degrading microbial community was enriched. ⺠Intermittent pH adjustment enhanced hydrolysis and acidification of steam-exploded cornstalks. ⺠Major acidification products (acetate and propionate) were increased with pH enhancement. ⺠Composite microbe analysis showed different strains were dominant due to pH shift.
