Abstract
► Conductive polymers greatly promote power output in both abiocathode and biocathode. ► Cathode biofilm grows faster and thicker on the modified, than unmodified one. ► -OH in polymers makes MFC less sensitive to DO and pH change in cathode chamber. ► -NH3 in polymers provides better adhesion for biofilm and enhances MFC power output. ► Predominated phyla of cathode microbial community were changed after modification.
