Abstract
⺠Biodiesel was produced from wet, lipid-rich microalgae paste. ⺠Wet algae paste was pre-treated through hydrothermal carbonization. ⺠Rare-earth metal triflate catalysts were effective for (trans)esterification. ⺠Lipids within hydrochars were (trans)esterified without prior extraction. ⺠Triflate catalysts are water tolerant.
