Abstract
⺠Seven miniature MFCs were operated in cascade formation. ⺠Individual MFC behaviour could be linked to substrate depletion. ⺠Feedstock was reduced to COD levels fit for discharge to the environment. ⺠Fluctuating flow rates and intermittency improved overall cascade performance. ⺠Power density was superior when connected electrically in parallel than in series.
