► Integration of algal biodiesel production with cane sugar mill was investigated. ► Material and energy balance computer simulations compare different dewatering scenarios. ► Available resources from mill can support production of 5.8 million L biodiesel/yr. ► A 530 ha algae farm can reduce CO2 emissions of the mill by 15%.
