Abstract
► Ferrate and chlorine gas had different effect on the bacterial community. ► 5 mg L−1 Fe(VI) dose was sufficient for >99.9% reduction of indigenous bacteria. ► Similar dosage was effective for inactivating selected chlorine-resistant bacteria.
