Abstract
► We established NMMO-cellulase compatible system for improved in situ saccharification. ► Cellulose is activated and solubilized, while cellulase is stable and active in our system. ► Ultrasound assisted in situ hydrolysis resulted in enhanced saccharification rate. ► The data of viscosity and FTIR analysis revealed that biomass structure was disrupted. ► Trifle lignin in our system might protect the cellulase as antioxidant and favor the conversion.
