Abstract
⺠Conceptual design of fuel ethanol production from sugarcane was performed. ⺠Knowledge-based strategy for process synthesis was employed. ⺠Best option considering techno-economic and environmental criteria was identified. ⺠Evaluation of alternative configurations was done based on process simulation.
