Abstract
► A hyper-butanol producing Clostridium acetobutylicum was used to produce n-butanol from cassava bagasse. ► Fed-batch fermentation with gas stripping for butanol separation alleviated butanol toxicity. ► The process used highly concentrated bagasse hydrolysate for continuous butanol production. ► Butanol at a high titer of 100-160 g/L was produced continuously for an extended period. ► This process can produce n-butanol from cassava bagasse, an agricultural residue with little use.
