Abstract
⺠We characterised and modelled the settlement of organic matter in composting reactors. ⺠The vertical settlement profile follows a linear trend in relation to the pile depth. ⺠The settlement evolution is strongly correlated with the biological activity. ⺠The mass settlement process can be integrated into biological composting models.
