Abstract
AbstractA method for estimating the true injection duration of a fuel injection valve is proposed in this paper. In order to reduce the error in the injected fuel mass, the injection duration needs to be adapted during the engine operation. The structure borne noise caused by the injection process is used to obtain an estimate of the injection duration and thus the actual injected fuel mass. Based on parametric modeling techniques, a method using the standard knock sensor of a custom four cylinder gasoline direct injection engine is proposed for detecting the beginning and the end of injection. This method allows for an efficient and easy-to-implement detection strategy.
