Abstract

Coverage area adjustment is one of the crucial problems to be solved to utilize the full potential of heterogeneous systems. The power levels should be adjusted such that the leakage to outdoor users is limited while providing high signal quality for indoor users. In this paper, we propose a coverage adjustment algorithm for two-tier femtocell networks with possible extensions to multi-tier networks. The proposed algorithm aims to achieve fairness among users in a distributed manner, without relying on channel state information or predefined target parameters. Convergence analysis under both fixed and time-varying communication infrastructure setups are investigated. The performance of the proposed algorithm is further verified by comparisons and simulations which are in agreement with the theoretical analysis.
