Abstract
- A novel intumescent coating technology for metallic surfaces was developed.
- The intumescent coating contained nanoclays which were well dispersed.
- Flame retardance improved significantly when the clay platelets could be adequately dispersed.
- The coatings present significant improvements over conventional fire retarding coatings.
