Abstract

A generalization of the method of characteristics for Bellman equation is applied to solving optimal control problems with terminal cost functional. A new numerical method is suggested for constructing optimal open-loop controls. The method is based on the backward procedure of integrating the characteristic system ODE's. This method is tested in mechanical examples. Estimates of accuracy and results of simulations are exposed.
