Abstract

In this paper modelling of a steep and narrow irrigation channel that has little storage is considered. A number of step tests were carried out on the channel, and the data were subjected to standard step test analysis. A first order parametric model was also fitted to the data using a prediction error method. Earlier works have shown that this model gives a good description of the dynamics for relatively flat and wide channels, and here it is demonstrate that this also holds for steep and narrow channel as there was generally good agreement between the simulated model output from the identified model and the observed water levels.
