AbstractThe present paper focuses on the adoption of simulation for the engineering of spare parts management in multi site contexts. A simulation model based decision support system, enabling decisions in spare parts management, is presented: at first, its modelling features are described by means of Unified Modelling Language; then, a demonstration of the decision support system is presented in order to outline its functions, an industrial use case is adopted for the sake of demonstration. Eventually, the paper extends its scope to envision integration of the decision support system in a maintenance information system of a manufacturing enterprise. The vision serves in order to define the role and integration requirements of simulation within a computer aided maintenance engineering system.
