Abstract

Wireless localization of persons or objects inside buildings is currently a highly topical research problem, mainly due to the fact that, unlike outdoor localization, it involves a substantial number of technical issues related to the difficult propagation of radio signals in a non- homogeneous environment. The authors describe the implementation of a locating system based on the nanoPAN 5375 radio modules; the data obtained via distance measurement using the Time of Arrival technique are used to calculate unknown positions of devices. In this context, the paper presents the derivation of this technique precisely for the calculation of position in space, and drawbacks and alternative solutions related to the method are also discussed.
